Carol Nelles made these wonderful scones for Kevin’s 50th birthday party weekend. They have become a family favorite thanks to Meg our family baker. They are wonderful to bake at the cottage. This recipe makes 8 scones.
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
2 teaspoons of grated orange peel
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tablespoon sugar
Directions
Heat oven to 400F.
Lightly grease cookie sheet.
In a large bowl,combine flour, sugar, baking powder and orange peel. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add milk and egg. With fork stir until mixture leaves sides of bowl and soft dough forms.
On floured surface, gently knead dough 10 times. Place on grease cookie sheet.
Roll or pat into 6 inch circle.
Sprinkle dough with 1 tbsp of sugar.
Cut dough into 8 wedges. Separate slightly
Bake at 400F for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
